Lexus LFA
Lexus LFA (2010 to 2012): the V10 halo Toyota built to prove a point
The one thing to know
This is not a fancy Lexus. It is a hand-built, 500-only carbon-fibre supercar with a screaming V10, and Toyota lost money on every single one. Treat it as a rolling engineering statement, not a badge upgrade.
Toyota spent something like ten years on the LFA, kicking the project off back around 2000. They even scrapped an early aluminium body partway through and started again in carbon fibre, which tells you they cared more about getting it right than getting it out the door. When it finally landed, they built exactly 500 of them over two years and then walked away. No facelift, no run-out special. Done.
The heart of it is the 1LR-GUE, a 4.8-litre V10 co-developed with Yamaha. It makes around 553 hp (560 PS) at 8,700 rpm and revs to a 9,000 rpm redline. Here is the party trick: it spins from idle to the limiter in about 0.6 seconds, faster than a normal needle tacho can physically follow, so Lexus fitted a digital tacho instead. Yamaha also had a hand in the intake and exhaust tuning, so the thing sounds less like a car and more like a small F1 grid. People who have never cared about Lexus in their life go quiet when an LFA lights up.
The body is carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), the engine sits up front but behind the front axle line, and drive goes to the back through a rear transaxle for balance. The gearbox is the one bit that dates it: a single-clutch automated sequential (ASG), not a modern dual-clutch. Toyota actually tried a twin-clutch and binned it because it felt too smooth and clinical for the car they wanted. So shifts land with a proper mechanical shove. That is character, not a fault, but go in knowing it is not a PDK.
The Nürburgring Package: the one to chase
Lexus offered a hardcore version called the Nürburgring Package. Lexus stated a limit of around 50, though a handful more appear to have been built. It gets about 10 extra horses (roughly 563 hp), stiffer and lower suspension, quicker shifts, lightweight BBS wheels and a big fixed rear wing that adds around a third more downforce. It set a 7:14 lap of the Ring, which was seriously quick for a road-legal car at the time. If you are buying an LFA to actually drive it hard, this is the one worth hunting, and the market knows it.
| Variant | Power | Made | The pitch |
|---|---|---|---|
| LFA (standard) | ~553 hp | ~450 | The full experience, softer edge |
| LFA Nürburgring Package | ~563 hp | ~50 to 64 | Aero, stiffer, the collector's pick |
The numbers on paper undersell it. It does 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.6 seconds and tops out near 325 km/h (about 202 mph), which is quick but not headline-grabbing next to today's twin-turbo crowd. That was never the point. The LFA is about how it revs and the obsessive way it was put together. Values reflect that. These were dear when new and they have climbed hard since, because there are only 500 and Toyota will never build another. It has gone from oddball to genuine blue-chip cult car.
Buying one: this is a low-production halo car, so provenance, history and originality matter far more than the odometer reading. Parts are rare and specialist, the CFRP structure is not something you patch in a suburban panel shop, and a car with real documentation and a clean story is worth the premium over a cheaper unknown. Sort the history before you fall for the noise.
Own one, or just want to?
We are building a register of every LFA we can find. If you have one, or you know where one is hiding, help us map them.

- Last 3 numbers in VIN do not equal LFA build number!
- Source information is limited to region. USA will cover USA, Canada, and probably others. Europe RHD covers UK + Australia + SE Asia + probably others.
- I only found records of 497 cars. 500 were built + prototypes?
This is work in progress.
I am looking for access to Toyota Electronic Parts Catalog System with 2013 data. If you can help out I may be able to improve the information in this table.
